Carving techniques in woodblock paintings
With folk paintings, people only chisel to focus or clean pieces, up to 1cm deep, not describing substance or emotions through engraving. The chisels are concave down, they are all flat so that when printing, the colors are clean, not describing the substance. Using a set of ticks with only the blade, without a handle, people chisel indirectly by holding the tick in the left hand, placing the blade close to the line to be chiseled, and then the right hand holds the chisel to hit the other end of the tick... When printing many copies, the worker must calculate to create the standard points (gauge points, toothpick marks) to match the color plates with the stroke.

With modern woodcut paintings, people directly touch with the right hand holding the chisel handle, scoop, floss, glide, shake ... to both be able to chisel and create substance or leave emotions through the engraving. This modern-style “sword technique” can create a generously inspired engraving.
